  1. In 2:20-23 the words of the Son of God to the Thyatirans are generally encouraging, but our Lord spares no words warning a certain element among them for their heretical and immoral behavior. In a cultural season when many in the pews gravitate to comfortable ‘happy talk’ and ear- tickling stuff, what should pastors and people learn from the Lord’s example in this passage? See 2 Timothy 4:1-4.
  2. That certain element infecting some of the house churches at Thyatira and threatening the otherwise good health of that church was apparently motivated by more than simple carnal lust, but also by fear of being socially and economically marginalized if they did not compromise. Do you see in our modern life the same thing in principle, that is, threats of social and economic marginalization presenting themselves to us as believers, threats of such strength that might tempt us to accommodate and ‘play ball’ with the world, its views, and its bad practices? Discuss.
  3. In verse 24 what is Jesus talking about when He speaks of those who have resisted the logic of learning Satan’s “deep secrets”? Have you ever encountered a professing believer operating on that same logic? Explain.
  4. Pastor Jim made a strong point (verse 24) about our Lord’s admonition to this church “to hold on to what you have until I come.” What did he say about that?
