  1. Verses 6:7-8 by an agrarian analogy describe two kinds of spiritual ground always found among professing Christians in any generation and their opposite responses to the tillage and watering of God’s Word. Go to Galatians 5:19-23 where the Apostle Paul describes the fruits of the esh vis a vis the fruits of the Spirit.
  2. Why is the author of Hebrews persuaded, despite his sharp warning to these 1st century Hebrew believers against apostasy, that they will stand the test? (see verse 10 and 10:32-34) Does that tell us that the best test of the roots is the fruits?
  3. If the author is, in the final analysis, convinced that those whom he is addressing are the real deal, despite some current wobbliness in their faith, why such a strong warning in verses 4-6? How did Pastor Jim explain the role of the Word of God in ‘keeping’ His own tethered to their faith?
