  1. The number ‘seven’ is very prominent in the book of Revelation (not Revelations, by the way). Most biblical scholars agree its symbolic significance is what?
  2. What is the significance of the seven churches mentioned in 1:4 and how do they relate to us today?
  3. The ‘grace and peace’ greeting is often found in NT documents. They are not merely conventions, but are directed to specific constituents of Christian congregations in that day. Which constituents?
  4. The prepositional phrase “from him who was, and who is, and is to come” unpacks (in its fullness) what is embedded in the name that God revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:13-14). What name is that and what does this name mean to you?
  5. Most evangelical interpreters understand the phrase “the seven spirits before his throne” (v. 4) to speak of what or whom? Although there is room for debate, perhaps the strongest basis for that view is the Greek version of which OT text?
  6. What is the meaning of the phraseology pertaining to Jesus Christ in verse 5b-c and how does this give you peace as a believer?
  7. John exults in what Jesus Christ has done for us in 1:5d-6. Talk about it.
