  1. In the study of biblical documents, one must always in interpretation take into account the literary type (called genre) one is reading. The book of Revelation features a strong dose of what is known as apocalyptic literature. How was that term defined and what is one important attribute of apocalyptic writing that an interpreter must always be alert for? What goes wrong if one ignores it?
  2. In the interpretation of any document, most especially biblical documents, one must study the context. One of those important contextual considerations is the historical context of the writing, which may explain many themes or otherwise puzzling or obscure statements. What was going on in the Roman world at that time and what was the posture of the Roman government with respect to Christianity? How do you find this relevant to the world today?
  3. Interpretatively, there are four views or approaches to the book of Revelation. Of those four, which view guides Pastor Jim on the content of the prophetic portions of Revelation and what are his reasons? (See note below.)
  4. In view of the historical context of this biblical document, summarize the overarching purpose of the writing and its spiritual value to God’s people from that day to this.

NOTE: As referred to by Pastor Jim in the message: Pick up in the Resource Center a copy (oner per family) of Four Views of the End Times booklet. Suggested donation $2.00.
