  1. Are verses 1-2 to be taken literally or symbolically? Why?
  2. The two witnesses in John’s vision are unidentified, but an educated guess as to their identities might be which famous figures from the Old Testament period? Why?
  3. These two personages are said (in verse 4) to be the fulfillment of the imagery the prophecy of Zechariah (4:3, 11-14). What do “the two olive trees and the two lampstands” mean with respect to the two witnesses?
  4. Explain the significance of John’s vision of the Ark of the Covenant in the heavenly temple of God. (verse 19)
